The Center provides a learning environment that cultivates mindfulness: the integration of mind, body, and spirit. CAHME is a hub where parents, schools, young people and communities work together to help children and youth develop the caring relationships and social and emotional abilities that enable them to flourish. Maria has been involved in the development of CAHME, and she oversees several of the program's major activities.
Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP)
HELP is the focal point for early child development research in British Columbia. HELP's research is grounded in a vision that integrates behavioural and social sciences with the biomedical sciences. Their research shows how the environments that children spend their time in during their early years “sculpt” their brains. This sculpting process affects life-long health, well-being, learning and behaviour. Maria LeRose works with HELP, it's director Clyde Hertzman in particular, in knowledge translation to assist HELP in their efforts to share their research findings and influence positive change for children.

Faculty of Medicine University of British Columbia
For 10 years I have been an Adjunct professor with the University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine. For 8 of those years I have been supporting second year medical students who are engaged in Community Service Learning.
Community Service Learning is a structured learning experience that combines community service with
preparation and reflection. My role is to work one-on-one with students, as well as in groups, to provide opportunities for critical reflection.
The Ambassadors An innovative Grade 8 teacher in an inner city school in Maryland arranged for his science students to visit a local cancer clinic to interview people who were undergoing treatment. He thought it would be an extraordinary experience for students to move beyond the textbook definitions of cancer - into the real world. But how would he prepare his students to do the interviews? That’s where Maria LeRose came in. She spent three days working with the students – honing their skills in research, videography, and on-camera interviewing. Then, then went to the Cancer Clinic. For students, the experience was transformational. They captured their journey on videotape and, appropriately, called themselves “The Ambassadors”
Personal Performance Coach
With 30 years experience as a television host /interviewer, and moderator of hundreds of large-scale live events Maria knows that the secret to a powerful presentation is not in mimicking superficial techniques. It is not about trying to look and sound like someone else. Presentations have the greatest impact when you are being yourself. You shine when you are calm and confident and clear about your intention, message and audience. Two examples of people who were helped by Maria's coaching follows.

The Courage to Lead! Like many people, Sharon Hall was more comfortable behind the scenes than on the stage. For several years in her role as program administrator at a large university she organized graduation ceremonies, then she stood back at the event while others took their place at the podium. With some encouragement, Sharon decided to step outside of her comfort zone and take on the role of Emcee. But first she needed some coaching. She worked with Maria LeRose to design the flow of the event, write her script, and finesse her presentation style. With newfound confidence she stepped into her role as MC with enthusiasm and grace. And there is no turning back!
From Fire Fighter to Public Speaker Peter Hansen has been a Fire Fighter since 1979. For the past 20 years he has also dedicated his time, energy and considerable talents to the British Columbia Professional Fire Fighters Burn Fund. With his leadership the Burn Fun raised millions of dollars and had a positive impact on thousands of lives. Peter has a big heart. When he learned that he had been awarded the prestigious Moncrief Award for his outstanding contribution in the area of burn prevention and burn care he was honoured. When he learned that he would be expected to deliver an acceptance speech at an international convention he was terrified! Working with Maria LeRose as a coach, Peter's fears were replaced by a determination to take full advantage of the unique opportunity to share his thoughts and heartfelt feelings with this audience of peers.
